Dan Roam is the author of bestseller ‘The Back of a Napkin’. This year he released his new book ‘Blah, Blah, Blah: what to do when words don’t work’ in which he introduces the fox and the hummingbird, representing our verbal and our visual mind. In our society, we mainly focus on the verbal mind, forgetting about our visual mind. Dan argues that those two minds need to be balanced. In his book he explains how we can learn to solve complex problems with simple pictures. He introduces ‘Vivid Grammar’, tools to help you become ‘double-minded’. Watch his video on his new book.

It’s a draw! Watch artists ink the debate in real time

Political talking points have never looked so artistic. In real time as President Obama and Governor Romney duked it out Tuesday night, artists commissioned by NBC News sketched the discourse. From job creation to Big Bird, each topic that came up during the 90-minute debate.

The artists are part of a group called Whiteboard Animation Studio in Brooklyn, New York.

The Value of Visual Practice Global Survey

Dear fellow Visual Practitioners,

Thank you for your valuable contribution to the field of visual practitioners. I would like to help you build the argument for going visual. I have compiled and launched a survey to gather quantitative data. With the help of Stine Arensbach and her team at KPMG, we have an animated video to introduce and explain it.

The Value of Visual Practice global survey is live at http://forbesoste.com/research !

PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH YOUR NETWORK, YOUR CLIENTS AND YOUR PEERS. THE MORE DATA THE BETTER TO GET ACCURATE QUANTITATIVE RESULTS.

Once there are enough results to start sharing, the survey results will be live on the same location as the survey. The results on the survey will contribute to an extended report with interviews and reference to other studies in this area. The intent is to contribute to the general knowledge base around this field for greater acceptance.

The report is part of extended doctoral research on Leadership in the New Social Paradigm, examining the impact of social technologies on leadership.

Thank you in advance for your passion for visual communications and for supporting the research. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Warmest wishes,

Heidi Forbes Öste

Animating an "Explainer" for the Final Season of Showtime's Series, Weeds

Ladies and gentlemen, another tipping point has been reached...

(via studiodaily.com)

New York animation studio IdeaRocket was tapped to create the new show open for the final season of Showtime's Weeds. IdeaRocket specializes in "explainers," which made it an ideal choice for Weeds executive producers Jenji Kohan and Roberto Benabib, who wanted a short-and-sweet retelling of the narrative of the first seven seasons of the show.

Taking the popular whiteboard animation videos from the RSA (Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) in London as a model, IdeaRocket Creative Director William Gadea's team built the clip to order. "I think the reason the RSA style is so hypnotizing is because you are witnessing a creative act," Gadea says.

We asked him Five Questions about IdeaRocket, Weeds, and keeping it simple.
